When you haven’t worked in two months and can no longer afford to do much of anything outside, you need to get comfortable with the idea of being home a lot. To help with this, it’s important to do little things to brighten up the house. Fresh cut flowers can help with this but they can be pricey, and waiting to see if your boyfriend buys them for you is a great way to test if he loves you or not.
When I feel like I will absolutely claw my eyeballs out if I have to keep looking at the same objects day in and day out, I like to turn to an old friend: ribbons! My love affair with ribbons began when I was lucky enough to attend college in the South. There I learned that ribbons were not just for little girls. Actual grown women can use them to dress up a pony tail (human and horse!) or add a little sparkle to a purse. Here are some ways I like to use ribbons to make my four walls feel a little less like a prison cell and more like a fabulous party that I never want to leave!
Extravagant Entryway
The entrance to your home should be inviting so that people will visit you, since you can’t afford to leave. A simple way to achieve this is to hang a little ribbon or wreath on your door at Christmas, and then simply be too lazy to ever take it down. If you use colors like I have, this can also double for Valentine’s Day. From March through November, tell people you just need a little holiday cheer to keep you from swallowing a bottle of bleach. Once you hit November, it’s Christmas again!
